Traditional Chinese therapies linked to improved sleep and mood in chemotherapy patients

Chemotherapy-related side effects—including fatigue, sleep problems, and mood disturbances—substantially reduce quality of life in cancer patients. Researchers conducted a systematic review and network meta-analysis of 35 randomized controlled trials involving 2,025 chemotherapy patients to compare five Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) non-pharmacological interventions: acupuncture, auricular therapy (ear-based acupoint stimulation), manual acupoint therapy (hand pressure on meridian points), mind-body exercise therapy (tai chi, qigong), and moxibustion (heat therapy).

Notably, no serious adverse events were reported across included studies, suggesting these TCM therapies have a favorable safety profile during chemotherapy.
